First assignment that involved making an actual advertisement.
The teacher didn’t hate it, though I missed the mark.
I can’t wait to get it right on the first try.

It’s Starting to Ad Up.
Decisions, Decisions…
A buddy of mine needed a new twitter profile pic. Somehow, I’d been lucky enough to shoot the last few she’d used: one of her exercising, one of her looking fabulous at work, and another of her looking mysterious walking through a parking lot so a new one wasn’t so far out of range.
I opted to parry her two greatest loves against one another: running and sweets. She’s not the first woman I’ve known who openly points out that exercise is mostly important because it allows her to eat the way she’d like. The other routinely talks about her own blog.
Anyway, here’s the newest iteration of @OhGrohs.
Her Ladyship.
This is Shawn, who happily joined us on our steampunk escapades through the old factory. She was great to work with. I’m anxious to get her back in the greenhouses just ’cause I think there’s a lot of interesting stuff that may be a little less costume intensive in those spaces. The light wasn’t this warm, but it really did wrap around the space like that.
Work in Progress.
Shades.
The Odds Against.
This is Jennie Araujo, an UnSafebet. She’s a wedding photographer.
And a model.
And awesome.
I teamed up one afternoon last weekend with Tim Wood to shoot some new images of Jennie. It satisfied everyone on all sides of the camera. I ended up with a few more, but this diptych was my favorite. When Tim and I compared versions (This is his.) after we’d done post, it was cool to see the vastly different directions we’d gone in. I’m looking forward to the collaboration again sometime.
EDIT:
Tim suggests (in the comments) that I add this image to the post. It’s one of my immediate favorites as well. I’m hoping to go through the batch sometime next week.
Pilates.
Awhile back I posted this image because for a not-so-limber fella like me, it was amazing to behold.
I went back a couple of weeks ago with an assistant to actually shoot the bendy lady and we got some amazing stuff. The client and model, Sylvia Nofsinger, is a pilates teacher here in Richmond. She’s good. Really good.
What struck me the whole time was that it was hard for me not to just watch. I suppose that’s the hard thing about being a photographer of any stripe, though. It was hard not to just stare. She’s in such great shape and her ability to contort her body into so many interesting shapes is just amazing.
I suppose for fashion photographers the impulse is less pronounced but I wonder how sports shooters and (since we’re being honest) folks who shoot people completely naked-ish can pay attention.
At any rate, hats off to people who can teach pilates and people who can be amazed at the things they photograph but avoid being gawkers.
A New Addition.
No.
Not at my house. We’re finished with the baby-making. Seriously.
My sister and her husband, on the other hand, are just getting started. On a recent visit to their house, they asked me to take some pictures of the belly. I had the small camera with me and took some grabs. I was happiest with this one.
I’ve got a few more to sift through and will try to get one of them up later this week.
In the meantime, I’ve got some of the official shots of this young lady ready to go. Keep an eye out
Time Off.
I’ve got a fairly large backlog of stuff to work on and it’s not all of it photo related.
To catch up, I’m gonna stop posting for a few days. Not to worry. New stuff will be here soon.
In the meantime, an old buddy of mine’s come back to town and agreed to lemme make her look cool.
See how I’m gettin’ my money’s worth on that gun prop?
I’ll be back before you know it.
