Made for Walkin’ (in the rain).

My daughter talked about these for days after my wife brought them home from a colleague whose daughter had outgrown them.

Despite the chaos that last week’s torrential rain caused, there was one really happy little girl at my house ’cause she got to wear these. While, I’m glad she got to wear them, I hope it doesn’t rain again any time soon.

Big Boy Pants.

We’ll probably use those very words again when he’s toilet training, but for the moment, he’ll have to settle for the humor.

This was an idea for a shoot that my wife came up with before he was born. I’ll need to reshoot it later on so it’ll look cleaner, but the idea here is pretty fun.

She Was a Skater Girl.

skater girl-2420.jpg

I was looking to do a series like this a while back but couldn’t find any girls who rode skateboards. Then I ran into this young lady. These aren’t exactly the shots I was hoping to make, but they’re good sketches.

Had a little fun during a model shoot over at the Old Stone House at Forest Hill Park.
That’s a killer belt buckle, eh?

Raiment.

Had another fashion shoot for a small Richmond fashion design outfit. This time, instead of just kids, we shot some grownup stuff, to include some belts.

I had a good time doing post for these because I’m figuring out stuff in Lightroom that makes images a little harder hitting.

Tacky.

Among the people I know is an accomplished rider. I wanted to try out the new light and she agreed to let me shoot a few frames of her. I wasn’t expecting much so I was relaxed. We had a good time catching up while I played around but the more I look at the set, the more I think I might actually re shoot it, without all of her stuff in the background. I was thinking, it’d look a little like Trevor Brady’s “At Home” series (which is NSFW, by the way), but in color (and with the model clothed) the feel changes and the “stuff” becomes noisy.

Anyway…

Tardiness.

One of the things I’ve lost control of in my old age is my ability to be punctual. When I was in college, “on time” was 5 minutes ahead of the scheduled time, “late” was the actual scheduled time, and after that was unacceptable. Somewhere near the time that I got a car, quick, wireless internet access, and a child (or maybe the three have nothing to do with one another), I lost it. I stopped even caring.

I routinely leave the house without one or two required items for my day. If it’s my watch, I sometimes take a pass and live without it for the day. If it’s my camera, I have to circle back and pick it up. My neighbors must think I’m nuts for going back and forth from the car as many times as I do in the morning on my way to work.

I point all this out because a couple of years ago, when I shot this, this model was late. She was half of a duo for the day so we lived without her in her absence. I was sifting through my hard drive looking for pictures of my daughter — my wife needed something — and saw this, an image I’d not “published” before. It made me smile, because I’m pretty sure I was a little behind schedule that day, but the model was later than I. To be fair, it wasn’t her fault. Her roommate had had car trouble and she was duty-bound to help out. She apologized profusely, though it didn’t matter. It was a laid back day.
