The Kindness of Strangers.

IMG_0143.jpg

I’ve found that when I carry a camera around and I ask nicely, people will let me make photographs of whatever I like. In this case, an old Ford Mustang. Richmond’s got lots of old cars around and the neighborhoods around Forest Hill Park seem to have more than their share.

I was driving home from the playground with my infant son in the back seat when I saw the car. The man who owned it was out working on his other car, a more modest, newer Ford. When I asked nicely if I could shoot a couple of quick pictures of his car, he was taken aback. Apparently, he’d restored it and the car was due for a touchup. It looked great to me.

He even opened it up for me. There’s nothing to lose by asking!

Good Help Is Hard To Find.

And as such, when I do find it, I try to be gracious.
These are some shots for a kind, young soccer coach I know.

If they look like some other shots you’ve seen here before, that’s because they’re a second try. I played with the lighting some and I think I prefer the way the light spills in from the windows behind her on these. They give a little more atmosphere than the straight on, even light of the flash does.

Tacky.

Among the people I know is an accomplished rider. I wanted to try out the new light and she agreed to let me shoot a few frames of her. I wasn’t expecting much so I was relaxed. We had a good time catching up while I played around but the more I look at the set, the more I think I might actually re shoot it, without all of her stuff in the background. I was thinking, it’d look a little like Trevor Brady’s “At Home” series (which is NSFW, by the way), but in color (and with the model clothed) the feel changes and the “stuff” becomes noisy.

Anyway…

Every Freakin’ Time…

Every time I go to the fair, I shoot some variation of this image. I don’t know why. Those damned swings just call to me, I suppose.

The Same Damned Picture

Also managed a couple of new looks at the carousel that makes me photograph it every year. Go figure.

More Smallness.

I grabbed some of my daughter’s bath toys (not to be confused with my own collection of rubber ducks) and played around with them. Meh.
