These two women are the same person. On twitter, she’s the RVAFashionista. She runs this blog. I’m working on a project with Joe over at Brainchild Collective featuring some of the cool Richmond kids on twitter and she’s one.
She’s got the last word on Richmond fashion, whether it’s shoes or tops or how your empire waist dress oughtta fit.
Check her out.
This is a continuation a series I started awhile back. There’s a companion to this image over on this blog. If you live in the Richmond area, there’s a wealth of information about the Woodland Heights and Westover Hills areas to be found there.
A huge roar of thanks goes out to these boys’ mom. We’ve been trying to schedule this shoot for a long time and always something happened to stymie us. As near as I could tell, the lads got a big kick out of having stuff written on their hands. Add to that their amazing poker faces (they were smiling to beat the band when I was writing and when we were chimping the shots later).
I’m happy with where these are going, but I have to confess, I’m getting a little stumped on what to write on their hands that delivers a message about being a kid and only takes 8 characters. I’m open to suggestions.
And as such, when I do find it, I try to be gracious.
These are some shots for a kind, young soccer coach I know.
If they look like some other shots you’ve seen here before, that’s because they’re a second try. I played with the lighting some and I think I prefer the way the light spills in from the windows behind her on these. They give a little more atmosphere than the straight on, even light of the flash does.
I’m actually gonna reshoot these with a little more care with regard to a lot of things, but I had a quiet moment this morning before class to look at the images again. While I think I can nail these, I kinda like this one, too. I should’ve posted it with yesterday’s image. Shrug.
Happy Friday, everyone.
I almost called this post “Location. Location. Location.” ’cause I lucked into this beautiful space in which to shoot.
The ladies of the Junior League of Richmond were kind enough to let me use the Mayo-Carter House. It was built in 1895 and is done in a style called French Renaissance Revival. This house was designed by New York architects Carrere & Hastings, the same architects who designed the Hotel Jefferson, just one block east.
The house is beautiful. It has super high ceilings and is furnished on the ground floor with stuff that feels like the scenery from a high fashion catalog. As I understand it, this is just a reflection on the important outreach work the Junior League does.
Anyway, we were there for about two and a half hours and snapped a few digital images and a few film ones, to include a roll of black and white and a roll of cross process. I think I had greater success with the film than with the digital. These two are film.
