The Nest Egg.

My wife bought this years before we had children and put it in different places around the house. I was flipping through flickr and saw something similar (I think the little girl was holding just eggs) and figured I’d make my daughter an accomplice again.

snOMG!

That’s what they were calling it in the twitterverse.
It’s snowed here two weekends in a row. I spent the time bundled up with the fam since my daughter’s only interested in talking about the snow.

I did manage to sneak out (and almost freeze my fingers off) this past Saturday to sneak a few pictures. It’s funny how such beautiful stuff as snow can bring a city like Richmond to a grinding halt.

There was ample sledding at local Forest Hill Park.

The local playground didn’t look as inviting as usual. More like something out of Silent Hill.

There’s just something about a bit of blue filter and a snowy road scene that just evokes desolation. You’d never know the sledders were just down the way.

I thought the images looked a lot like pieces from a film so I borrowed some post process techniques and made them look like this.
Thanks for visiting. I’ll try to update more frequently.

A New Addition.

No.
Not at my house. We’re finished with the baby-making. Seriously.

My sister and her husband, on the other hand, are just getting started. On a recent visit to their house, they asked me to take some pictures of the belly. I had the small camera with me and took some grabs. I was happiest with this one.

I’ve got a few more to sift through and will try to get one of them up later this week.

In the meantime, I’ve got some of the official shots of this young lady ready to go. Keep an eye out

A Prison Sentence.

So my 10 month old son has taken to waking up in the middle of the night, standing at the edge of his crib, and screaming his bloody head off. It’s far less fun than it sounds, if you can believe that.

What he wants most is for someone (namely me, ’cause my 2-year-old daughter is my wife’s responsibility in the small hours) to come pick him up and hold him. Maybe he’d even like to get into my bed so he can sleep somewhere that’s not his bed.

I am not down with this.

I’ve taken to going into his room and sitting with him. It occurred to me the first night I watched him try to stay awake (between the hours of 4:45 and 6:15) that it’d be super fun to photograph him, so I set up some lights the next night and caught this around 5:45. To my mind, he’s plotting his escape. He’s gonna get out of this dump, he figures. He’ll find a family that’ll treat him the way he wants.

I’m sure I should be doing more to help him, but at least this way, we’ll have proof of his idiosyncratic nocturnal ways when he’s bigger.

And maybe by then, it’ll be funnier than it is tragic.

A Hitchin’.

Meredith & Lane Wedding October 10th, 2009

I should say that I don’t often shoot weddings.
Honestly, I’m as nervous as the brides and grooms are up to the day the event happens and I’m always afraid I’ll start watching the ceremony instead of documenting it. I never do, but it’s one of the things I worry about.

I put that fear aside a little while ago and shot a wedding with Joe’s help. We got some AMAZING results. Since it was a Brainchild Collective project, Joe’s doing post on the images, but this one is surely one of the best.

I’ll pop a few more up when I get them.

For what it’s worth, the ceremony was here, and this was the post about their engagement pictures.

Up in the Sky

It doesn’t hurt to look up from time to time. It’d be interesting in the comments to list as many songs as we can that talk about airplane travel…

I Know What Girls Like.

Lately, my daughter’s been pointing out trucks. She notices them all and it seemed like a good idea to get her one. I mean, she’s two and she already has a distinct fashion sense (several purses to choose from, shoes for different outfits, dresses galore…) so adding a little bit of mechanical interest just rounds her out.

I think we’ll have to get her a loader (she calls them tractors) to go with the dump truck, but for the moment, she’s a-okay. And why shouldn’t she be? Do boys deserve all the fun?

Things Are Looking Up.

IMG_0203.jpg

I gotta say, I’m pretty pleased with the lineup of images comin’ this week. Some portraits, some snapshots (like this one) and some found photos, to boot.

Stay tuned!
