Forgive Me Father, For I Have Spared.

My buddy Martha (the namesake of one “Martha’s Darkroom”) is graduating in December and she needed a graduation photo. But neither Martha or I is one for the ordinary. We “kick it up a notch,” so to speak. We decided that we should try to work some of her interests together in some way to represent this milestone, so we started thinking about what those were.

She started school back in the 80s and, like so many college freshmen, had a great time and dropped out, only to find herself running a photo finishing business. She realized when her daughter got to high school that college was something she’d always wanted for herself and went back, this time as a super serious student (albeit one with a keen wit and a big smile).

Along the way, one of the hobbies Martha’d picked up was bowling. Although I’ve never bowled with her, I understand she’s got a pretty good game. I mean, she has the special bag for her ball and some of those funny shoes. What more do you have to have to prove that you’re good at bowling?

Finally, Martha’s a practicing Catholic. She can explain stuff about Catholicism to those of us who know little. Heck, she’s double majoring in History and Religious Studies so she can learn more about the other world faiths to make the planet a better place to live.

All of this combines to give us these great images in The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Martha on the eve of her graduation. Let me be the first to say, “Congratulations, Martha!”
