This is Jennie Araujo, an UnSafebet. She’s a wedding photographer.
And a model.
And awesome.
I teamed up one afternoon last weekend with Tim Wood to shoot some new images of Jennie. It satisfied everyone on all sides of the camera. I ended up with a few more, but this diptych was my favorite. When Tim and I compared versions (This is his.) after we’d done post, it was cool to see the vastly different directions we’d gone in. I’m looking forward to the collaboration again sometime.
EDIT:
Tim suggests (in the comments) that I add this image to the post. It’s one of my immediate favorites as well. I’m hoping to go through the batch sometime next week.
Straight Outta the Camera.
I think that most people just dump the pictures in their point-and-shoot digital cameras onto the web or at the photo lab so that they see everything that they’ve shot. There’s no filter. There’s no worry that, “Maybe these aren’t my best work…” or, “I should really crop this thing out…” or, “This would look so much better as a square…”
Well, here’s one of mine. This was at my son’s impromptu birthday party because the snow made it so no relatives could visit.
Right after I shot it I thought, this is gonna be hilarious. Then I showed it to her parents. They laughed too. It’s the kind of picture they can trot out when her friends come over when she’s 16. It’s perfect slide show fodder for the rehearsal dinner at her wedding.
I didn’t do anything to it despite thinking there must be something it needs. I think that starkness makes it work.
Ooh, Baby Baby!
When I pasted these together in Photoshop, I couldn’t stop thinking of this song. Dorky, I know.
Anyway, my wife held a baby shower for my sister at our house and I grabbed these really quickly before the shindig started.
I hope her husband takes pictures of their child as he or she (They won’t find out who’s coming, which drives me nuts!) grows ’cause nothing’s funnier than seeing who you and your parents used to be.

Oh! Hello, Doughnuts…
Can you ever really be sure when something miraculous is gonna happen?
I mean, a plate of soft, fresh, glazed doughnuts could show up while you were sitting in the park, minding your own business. Couldn’t it?
As long as the confection-fairy is around, you’ll never know.
Look to the Skies.
I’m working on some new stuff that’s got atmosphere. Like this.
Thanks a lot to Jennifer who was all about having her picture made.
I got some help from Nia, who works just as well on both sides of the camera, evinced here and here. We set up the lights for this and had Jennifer stand in the cool rain for about 25 minutes before we wrapped.
This image is new and different for me ’cause the retouching will be done by my twitter bud, Tanya Nichols. She was interested in honing her skills and asked me if I had any images I could let her work on. I told her I’d have new images from time to time and that she was welcome to help out with them when they came up.
I’ll post an update when she sends me something back.
